Dedicated to Historic Preservation Highlighting Endangered Buildings and Structures in the Southern Oregon Area.

Ashland, Oregon lost this beautiful historic building in 1961. It was built circa 1888, and was known as Hotel Oregon, later as Hotel Austin and then Hotel Ashland. It was remodeled in the teens with stucco and a new looking veranda. A fire in the late 1920's took the roof, which was then replaced with a tile roof. The building still looked great. It was a centerpiece for downtown Ashland, a landmark. Then in 1961 it was torn down. This demolition and others in Ashland over the next ten years inspired the forming of the Ashland Historic Commission and the creation of four National Register Historic Districts in Ashland.
